Hi Barbara,
Making comments as I hear things in the podcast.
The story with the government-imposed handicaps also made a big impression on me. For some reason, I still remember the name many years later:

Hi Matthew! Thank you!!! At least I got the author right :-) But yes, this is it, Harrison Bergeron. So powerful. The other book/story that made a lasting impression is a YA novel called Feed by MT Anderson. It feels so relevant to today. Highly recommended.

Thanks! "Feed" looks good and also a little frightening after spending 26 years in Silicon Valley - trying to escape now. I'll put it in my queue.

Some recent readings you might enjoy if you haven't read them:
"The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern: Marvelous and true in many subtle ways. I also like the way Tarot is depicted here.,
"The Mermaid's Sister", by Carrie Ann Noble. I felt captivated, unnerved, and couldn't put it down.
"The Shadow of the Wind", by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (still reading but very gripping). This one feels like there's danger and darkness at every corner at the same time as it carries a feeling a coming-of-age book - at least to the halfway point.
